Benzema retires internationally after Roosters fail
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema announced his retirement from international football after failing to participate with his country in the World Cup finals in Qatar, in which the Roosters finished runners-up after losing to Argentina on penalties.
Benzema said on his personal Twitter account: "I did my best, there are mistakes that have been made until I got to where I am today, and I am proud of that."
"I wrote my story. Our story is over now."
Spanish newspapers accused coach Didier Deschamps of eliminating Benzema from World Cup, that he rushed the decision to exclude the player from the camp before the tournament, and that he could have received treatment in Qatar and returned to participate at least in the final against Argentina.
The Argentine team, led by Lionel Messi, won the 2022 World Cup title, after beating France (4-2) on penalties, after drawing 2-2 in the original time, and 3-3 in extra time.
