Messi engraves his name in history of the 2022 World Cup
Argentine magician Lionel Messi engraves his name in golden letters in football history, in his last appearance at the 2022 World Cup.
Messi led the Argentine national team to crown the World Cup title for the third time in its history and the first in 36 years after beating his French counterpart 4-2 on penalties on Sunday.
Messi starred with Argentina by scoring two goals, the first came in the 22nd minute from the penalty kick and then returned and scored the third goal for his country in the 109th minute and then scored the first penalty for tango during the penalty shootout.
Messi deserved to become the first player in history to win the Golden Ball award for the best player in the World Cup twice, after scoring seven goals in the World Cup in Qatar to be second in the list of scorers, one goal behind young French star Kylian Mbappe.
Messi won the Ballon d'Or for the first time at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, when he led his country to the final before losing to Germany by an unanswered goal.
Lionel Messi has also been named Player of the Match 11 times in his five World Cup appearances throughout his history.
Messi won the Man of the Match award five times at the World Cup in Qatar, including four times in the knockout stages to surpass the feat of Dutchman Wesley Sneijder, who won the Man of the Match award four times at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
