Girona hardens Real Madrid quadruple Valentin Castellanos


Girona striker Valentin Castellanos led his side to a 4-2 victory over Real Madrid during Tuesday night's clash with the teams in the 31st round of the Liga, at Montelefi Stadium.


Castellanos scored Girona's goals in the game, on 12, 24, 46 and 62 minutes, while Real Madrid scored Vinicius Junior in the 34th minute, and Lucas Vázquez in the 85th minute.


This defeat freezes Real Madrid's balance at 65 points in the Liga standings table, while Girona jumped to ninth place, taking its tally to 41 points.


The game started with pressure from Real Madrid, and Fede Valverde aimed a ball from outside the area, but goalkeeper Gazzaniga shone in the save and turned it into a corner in the 6th minute.



Valentin Castellanos succeeded in scoring Girona's lead in the 12th minute, receiving a cross from the left end through teammate Miguel Gutiérrez and rising and hitting a header down the left of goalkeeper Lonin.


Girona's Valentin Castellanos added the second goal in the 24th minute, receiving a ball in the deep to be singled out for a two-colour bouncer as he fired into his feet. Argentina's Castellanos scored his fourth goal for Girona in the game, receiving a cross from the right end and rising to the head to score on the right of goalkeeper Andrei Lunin, in the 62nd minute.


Substitute Mariano Diaz tried to reduce the deficit for Real Madrid, receiving a cross from the left end, rising and volleying a header that went by the left post in the 79th minute.


Lucas Vásicz scored Real Madrid's second goal in the 85th minute, after a distinctive individual effort from Vinicius Junior and passed to Vázquez, who easily put it into the net.


Despite Real Madrid's total possession of the ball, he struck only 3 balls on goal with two goals, reversing Girona, who struck 5 balls and scored 4 goals, to secure a precious and historic victory over the Mirnji.
