Portugal fly to the World Cup at the expense of Turkey

  • Portugal booked the qualifying card for the Qatar World Cup, after beating North Macedonia 2-0 on Tuesday evening, in the final of the European Supplement.
  • Portugal's Bruno Fernandez scored in the two minutes (32-65).
  • The first try of the game came in favour of Portugal in the 13th minute, after Cancello sent a cross from the right side, followed by Fernandez with a header that crossed the crossbar.
  • Portugal almost opened the scoring immediately after 14 minutes, alone for Ronaldo, finishing with a powerful ground shot from inside the area, which passed just next to al-Qaim.
  • Portugal came back to form the danger again in the 24th minute, after Gota rose to a cross from a corner, scoring a powerful header that hit the ground and slightly crossed the crossbar.
  • Portugal opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, after a passing error from North Macedonia, to be missed by Fernandez and passed to Ronaldo, who in turn kicked the ball, before returning and paving the ball for Fernandez on the boundary of the area, who in turn hit a neat ground ball that inhabited the net.
  • Macedonia continued to be confused, after Ronaldo sent a cross into the area, which the goalkeeper missed, to be missed by Gota and hit a ball just past the post in the 40th minute.
  • In the second minute of stoppage time, Cancello hit a powerful ball from the edge of the area, going up the crossbar, ending the first half with Portugal leading with an unanswered goal.

Portugal started the second half strongly in the 52nd minute, with a ground shot from Fernandez from outside the box, which was grabbed by the Macedonia keeper.

Ronaldo looked to kill the game, scoring a cross from a corner in the 59th minute, with a header that went over the crossbar.


Portugal were able to add the second goal in the 65th minute, after Juta sent a cross into the area inside the uncensored Fernandez, who in turn hit a direct ball on the volley that blocked the net.


Macedonia tried to narrow the gap in the 72nd minute, with a ground shot from outside the area through Bardi, went away from goal, and the following minutes saw nothing new to end the meeting with Portugal winning 2-0 and qualifying for the World Cup.
